About Us

Greetings: Please allow me to let you know a little about myself. I am Mark T. Griffin, owner and photographer at PHOTOGRAPHY AT YOUR SERVICE. I have been interested in photography since I started using my father's 35 mm Argus film camera about 35 years ago. While in high school I became interested in photographing the activities of my fellow classmates for the yearbook. I soon realized that I had the eye and the timing to capture images at the height of the action. I also realized that I liked to take "people pictures" in order to capture their soul and emotion. Mostly self-taught, I continued to take classes for specialty purposes like darkroom work and business aspects of wedding and portrait photography.

In 1988 I had the pleasure of working my first "hired" wedding. Since then many things have changed. With the resurrection of Black and White imaging and a photojournalism style of coverage, Mariann, my wife, was asked to work with me during our wedding coverage. Not only do a bride and groom get complete posed and candid images in color they can have unique, emotional images in black and white. Realizing the need to continue expanding the diversity of what I wanted to photograph, I founded my business, PHOTOGRAPHY AT YOUR SERVICE, in 1995. The idea for the name came about because of the many stories from clients. They felt they had not received the service from the photographer at the quickie marts that they wanted. I wanted to be the photographer to give them the service that they desire. I feel that if a subject is involved in creating their portrait they will feel more confident about it. Upon realizing that they will have an input into producing their portrait they will then be more creative. Shortly after starting the business I became a member of the Professional Photographers Society of New York. Through the PPSNY I have taken yearly workshops from master instructors, gaining vast knowledge and unique ideas. Recently with the surge of digital photography, I have taken several courses on working with digital systems, print retouching and manipulation.

One of the member benefits of PPSNY is participating in the statewide print competition. Over the years I have received several merits for exceptional quality images. In 2002, my print entitled "Golden Eyes" a fine detailed digital portrait of a cat received a blue ribbon as well as the highly respected Court of Honor award. In 2005 PPSNY's held their 100th year convention. During the print competition I was blessed with the personal highest combined scoring for my print case. I received two blues and two reds. My print "Anguish" received a score of 80 for the first blue and the other blue was for "Evening Café' au lait" which had a score of 84. Since then I have both enter the print competition and chaired the committee for the state event, feeling that striving to improve the quality of my work is a very important part of what makes photography an art. Most recently the 2009 convention was held in Albany. I once more entered several prints for judging. I was fortunate enough to receive another blue ribbon print with a score of 81 for a digitally enhanced illustrative type image, titled "Pimp my ride."

What's next? There is a vast amount of creative situations becoming available to everyone at this time. With the ever changing scene in digital capture the question is only which way should we go? Many cool opportunities are being developed for high school seniors and wedding photography that involves the Internet. Check out the new networking sights we are linked to in order to see other examples of our work. The sky is the limit and your own creativity is your ticket.

Sincerely
Mark T. Griffin
